BitGo Adds IOTA to Global Custody Offering
TL;DR:
BitGo now supports IOTA with its regulated infrastructure, enabling institutional investors to securely hold, manage, and leverage IOTA tokens. This integration provides compliance, advanced security, liquidity options, and operational flexibility, fostering broader institutional participation in the IOTA ecosystem.
As IOTA marks its 10th anniversary, we’re expanding our institutional infrastructure with another long-standing pioneer: BitGo Trust Company, Inc. (BitGo). Since 2013, BitGo has been the digital asset infrastructure company delivering custody, wallets, staking, trading, settlement and financing from regulated cold storage.
A pioneer of the commercialization of multi-signature wallets and Threshold Signature Scheme technology, BitGo supports more than 1,550 tokens and coins for over 4,900 institutions, enterprises, and exchanges worldwide. BitGo is regulated in the United States by the South Dakota Division of Banking and maintains insurance for up to $250M in the event of theft, loss, and misuse of keys. BitGo delivers the trust and regulatory clarity needed for institutions to operate safely, transparently, and at scale.
Beginning in the first week of December, BitGo will add support for the IOTA Mainnet, allowing clients to manage IOTA tokens alongside other assets on a platform widely used across the digital asset industry.
Key Benefits for the IOTA Ecosystem
With BitGo supporting IOTA Mainnet, a range of opportunities now opens up:
Institutional Accessibility: BitGo enables institutions, exchanges, and any users with regulatory or tax-related constraints to access IOTA through a regulated, insured, custody framework. BitGo operates under the highest levels of regulatory oversight while undergoing constant audits and meeting stringent capital requirements compliance frameworks.
Exchange & Liquidity Infrastructure: BitGo serves as backend infrastructure for many exchanges, supporting custody, settlement and liquidity flows. Exchanges partnering with BitGo can now securely offer IOTA to their clients, while market makers gain additional operational flexibility. With BitGo’s over-the-counter (OTC) desk, institutions also have access to high-touch voice and chat trading to efficiently execute acquisition strategies. This OTC offering, already used by corporates and trading firms for assets like ETH, offers an additional pathway for institutional participants to access IOTA without leaving regulated custody.
U.S. Market Readiness: BitGo’s U.S. regulatory footprint and digital asset infrastructure provide U.S. participants with a compliant foundation to access IOTA. For any organization or exchange looking to operate within U.S. law, this integration opens one of the largest and most important markets in the world.
Operational Flexibility: Beyond custody, BitGo delivers trading, lending, borrowing, and programmable money use cases. Builders and institutions can leverage BitGo’s broad infrastructure offering to explore innovative applications with IOTA tokens, all while remaining compliant with regulatory requirements.
Driving Institutional Participation
By adding IOTA Mainnet support, BitGo gives U.S. institutions a compliant and recognised route into the IOTA ecosystem. This dramatically improves IOTA’s readiness for engagement across the U.S. digital-asset landscape, an important development for any project aiming to operate at global scale. With BitGo’s regulated framework in place, IOTA is now positioned for meaningful participation in U.S. institutional finance.
