Felix Krupar is a fully qualified lawyer admitted to the German Bar with a focus on IT and Privacy Law. He joins the IOTA Foundation as Regulatory Affairs Specialist.

After growing up in a small village in the Alps, Felix studied law in Munich, Sydney, and Bordeaux and completed his legal training in Berlin and Cape Town.

Since then Felix has worked as a researcher at the Hans-Bredow-Institute for Media Research in Hamburg, the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin and the University of Potsdam. He was a scholar at the Max-Planck-Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich and the Institute for Technology and Society in Rio de Janeiro. His work mostly focuses on Algorithms, Automated Decision Making and Blockchain. His doctoral thesis examines the legal treatment of algorithmically created content.

Most recently he worked as a lawyer in a Hamburg based law-firm, advising on IT-law and the implementation of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He is a frequent speaker on legal topics revolving around IT at national and international legal conferences.

As part of the Social Impact and Regulatory Affairs Team Felix will make sure that IOTA is properly represented before regulatory bodies and lawmakers.

I have been a part of the IOTA community since almost two years and have been discussing the legal implications of DLT ever since. As a lawyer I’m always most interested in the effects of law on cutting edge technologies. Working for the IOTA foundation is probably the most exciting job in law right now.

Law and regulation can at times seem more like an obstacle than an enabler for new technologies. With the right approach, however, law can act as a catalyst. As part of the Regulatory Affairs Team, I hope to help shape the regulatory environment for DLT and IOTA in a way that does not only give legal certainty for all its users, but also helps with actual mainstream adoption.

Felix will bring his expertise in regulatory and IT law to the foundation. His background in academia and practice is a great fit for his role at the intersection of legal research and policy. We hope he and the regulatory affairs team will be able to make a positive impact for IOTA and the whole DLT space. Please give him a warm welcome!
