IOTA and Shimmer Governance Votes October 2023 Results
TL;DR:
The IOTA and Shimmer communities have voted to accept the governance proposals [IGP - 0001] and [SGP - 0006]. The communities have agreed to support the Shimmer Community Treasury Grant Committee's proposal to optimize the specification that defines their way of operating and to receive a budget of IOTA tokens to operate an IOTA Community Grant Program. This blog post presents the final verified result of this vote.
From October 12th to 27th, the IOTA and Shimmer communities voted on the governance proposals [IGP - 0001] and [SGP - 0006] (read the announcement here). These proposals were submitted by members of the Tangle Community Treasury DAO as a result of their learnings in operating the Shimmer Community Grant program since its inception in April this year.
We’re pleased to share the final results of these votes in which both communities have given the green light to the proposals.
Proposal [IGP - 0001]: Tangle Community Treasury Grant Committee Revision
The proposal suggested:
- Giving 10 million IOTA tokens from the IOTA Community Treasury (54.8 million IOTA tokens as decided in the 2022 Build/Burn vote) to the Tangle DAO Grant Committee so they can launch an IOTA Grant Program. The IOTA tokens shall be given to the Committee once an IOTA EVM Chain makes the IOTA Community Treasury available.
Answer 1: Yes, approve the proposed framework revisions
- Votes received: 17,930,983,583,402,792 (96.14%)
Answer 2: No, I don't want to implement the proposed changes
- Votes received: 582,511,637,632,794 (3.15%)
Answer 3: Abstain
- Votes received: 138,168,183,315,125 (0.74%)
Participation in this vote: 5.21% of the maximum achievable votes.
Proposal [SGP - 0006]: Tangle Community Treasury Grant Committee Framework Revision
The proposal suggested revising the specification and include changes to:
- Enable the Tangle Treasury DAO to use unused assets to benefit the Shimmer and/or IOTA ecosystem and community.
- Give the Tangle Treasury DAO the right to create and sign contracts with grant receivers.
- Update the specifications to make it easier for community and committee members to understand.
- Change wording, edit grammar, and include mentions of the IOTA Community Treasury in the specification.
Answer 1: Yes, approve the proposed framework revisions

Answer 2: No, I don't want to implement the proposed changes
- Votes received: 21,600,109,924,392 (0.14%)
Answer 3: Abstain
- Votes received: 47,084,504,636,160 (0.30%)
Participation in this vote: 7.07% of the maximum achievable votes.
Our Community Node operators have verified both proposal counts and approved the correctness of the ballots.

The Tangle Community Treasury DAO is now set to operate under the revised specification.
A budget of 10 million IOTA tokens from the IOTA Community Treasury will be allocated to kickstart an IOTA Community Grant program once these tokens become available.
